Asylum applications and Europe’s safe country lists

On October the 8th, European interior ministers were meeting in Luxembourg to debate a common list of “safe countries of origin”. The idea is to agree on nations that are not considered dangerous, and so their citizens' claims for asylum can be fast-tracked (though they still have the right for their claims to be assessed).

Interesting... in some ways refugees and recent migrants are also doing their own self-reporting re: 'safe countries of desintation'. I read an article recently in a Dutch newspaper saying the Syrian refugees were warning others not to come to NL b/c of the conditions.
