A million new homes in five years, but where?

With the Local Plans causing mayhem in rural areas in the UK, could we really build new towns and villages out in the middle of nowhere?

The small rural towns of Derbyshire are under pressure to allow property developers access to greenfield sites for development. Of course there is lots of opposition to this idea, but the housing crisis in the UK is acute, so it has been suggested that new villages and towns should be built on unused farmland.

Interesting idea but would it work, I am currently talking to a local farmer to explore this idea, with the land he owns on the edge of a small Derbyshire town.

Hi Tim, do you have any ideas on what kind of houses/ accomodating facilities to build? I've been living in the UK for a couple of years and what I've experienced/ seen is that existing properties in England are in fairly bad condition (there are plenty stable ones naturally, I mean the traditional English houses). Would be interesting to find out about this project in detail. Thanks!

Hi Julia, we are taking a fresh look at the whole idea of a live / work space from a rural perspective. I will be updating via the ecf lab.

as in you're going to build a new town with him? Bit of a tantalising way to sign off there
